My phone died Sunday evening. My charger won't work. Another bought charger didn't work either. I went to see if I could switch phones but there's too much red tape. So I have a temporary phone for now. It sucks because I am glued to my phone. When I make a call to a friend or fam member, I talk for an hour. Minimum. Now I have about that much time until next week.
BOOOOO.
In other (tennis) news: TMS Hamburg started this week. Marat's still in (hurrah!). He plays Tomas Berdych tomorrow. Fed, Rafa, and Djoko all play tomorrow. Today's matches have been snooze-ville for me. Apparently Tommy Robredo's match had a bit of drama...I hope they upload it on youtube. And now, one of the Italians (who I fell in love with last week at Rome), Andreas Seppi, is playing my Frenchman Richard Gasquet. Venga and allez!

Day was fun. Had an early appointment and then made my way to IKEA. The familiar sight of the big blue building with yellow block letters elicited a scream of delight from me. I wanted to get myself a small laptop table and some other random household accessories/items. It wasn't as big as the Schaumburg IKEA. Well, maybe it was, but it definitely was a lot more confusing! Dizzying, for sure, especially when you go there with an empty stomach and not as much sleep.
But it was worth it! I hated being alone but whatever, I got my stuff and my chocolate hazelnut cream biscuits. MMMMM. And...all that other stuff. Hehe.
So, in random tennis news, Rafa lost to JCF early on at TMS Rome if I didn't already mention that. And then Fed lost yesterday to Radek Stepanek. GASP. So now it's Djokovic vs. Wawrinka (STAN THE MAN!!!) in the final. That should be interesting.
I got nothing more. Time for my minestrone and hopefully some Doctor Who. But probably no DW today. Maybe tomorrow.

Dream I had last night:
that was interesting.
other than that it's gorgeous outside today but i spent most of it indoors. mainly because i'm supremely tired and also because i was watching "kicking and screaming" and enjoying will ferrell in that movie. the man's hilarious, although he was very silly in this one. but funny nonetheless. then it was phone time. and now it's time to make dinner. i need to be in bed in about an hour and a half.

Today's my weekend. Usually my weekends consist of me running errands or sitting at home watching TV/surfing the web. It's usually more of the latter. I occasionally do things fun...
...well, not really. I don't have anything to really do, so I don't do anything productive. Lots of lost chances take up my weekends.
And finally in non-gorgeous nature news, the top four seeds are into the semis at Monte-Carlo. Fed, Rafa, Djoko and Davydenko. Hurrah! I've become a fan of the American Sam Querrey, who I think has had the best tournament so far. The only American at the first clay court Masters, he has done something that neither Roddick or Blake have done--he actually played this tourney and he made it to the quarterfinals. For some reason, I really think well of him, so it looks like I have one American player I really like.
The world is coming to an end.

As much as I love to read, stare into space, do outdoorsy things and so on and so forth...I'm such a TV addict. Especially now that I have a TV and cable, I'm glued. GLUED. And Doctor Who is on Sci Fi now, which is awesome. I caught a bit of Sarah Jane Adventures too, which was a nice, for lack of a better word, change from DW. Because if you didn't know, I'm actually a 10-year old at heart and some kid shows are just awesome.
Don't really have much else of an update except that hopefully after tonight, the Democratic candidate will be decided. At this point I'm so tired of the relentless coverage on CNN and of the ragging and the sniping and oh my god just get it over already.
I'm the worst example of the American voter: the apathetic. And this is my first year voting and I'm already annoyed by this election. I'm voting Dem though, that's for shizzle.
I can't help it. It's become my new 'thing' to say.

It's been a very different week from what I've become accustomed to since moving here. Last I wrote I was in the process of another move, this time to a different flat. Moving from the ground floor up to the third is quite a hassle. But, surprisingly, I moved almost all my things on my own, so I definitely developed sore muscles. I skipped yoga again for this reason. Oh well, I need to practice anyway.

I think I've found the one thing I really like about the east coast (other than change in scenery and proximity to the 'well-known' places): the change in seasons. I don't think I've really noticed the gradual shift from summer to autumn to winter to spring as well as I've seen it here. In the midwest, it's hard to know when spring really begins because the weather's so unpredictable and it goes from cold to warm to cold to warm and back and forth until you get fed up.

It seems all my blog posts recently are updates. That's bad. I mean to post more, but for some reason I can never find interesting things to say. Maybe I will. Soon. I don't know.
( Say what now? )
I had one of those weekends that I wish I could relive again. Whenever I escape the small city to a larger one, I'm always wistful of returning. I went to NYC to visit some friends and I had a blast. I met up with one of my journo classmates who was visiting the city and of course spent time with some old friends. I did some shopping, went to a comedy club (!!!) and ate a dosa after the. Longest. Time.
Came across this ridiculous bit of news today thanks to
roh_wyn. Honestly, I can't believe this really happens in the world. Thoughts?
I know I haven't written a proper post in a while. It really annoys me how lazy I am sometimes. I told myself this weekend would be all about writing and catching up on all the things I've "pushed aside." It was supposed to be about planning stuff out for the next few months, getting some idea of grad school and such and such. I know I'm going to grad school next fall ('09) and where...I just haven't applied and decided on a program yet. Yay for forward thinking!
I have no idea what my title is supposed to suggest. I was just listening to it on the radio and thought, hey I love that song. Let's put it as the title! So there you are.
You can see how I excited I am. I'm not bitter about the holiday, I just think it's a waste of time. But, I do celebrate love, so I put up the icon of one of my favourite fiction couples: Eowyn and Faramir (I almost wrote Eomer and Faramir. That wouldn't be right...although they're my two favourites in the LOTR series).
Exactly one year ago today (the same Tuesday last February), it snowed. Heavily. We got snow days on campus. Of course, I didn't get a snow day off work. Funnily enough, when I drove in to work, the snow wasn't that bad. I think anyone who's lived in the Midwest for a few years gets used to worse weather. I come in to the office and see the local news is tuned in. School after school after college after league meetings are cancelled.
For an inch of snow.
Now, I had three, maybe four snow days--maybe even less--when I was in high school. Four or so days out of four years of school. At university, where one has to walk to get from point A to point B (or take the bus, but if you know me well, I didn't take the bus unless I absolutely had to), we had two snow days in my four years there. But it had been the first two snow days in thirty odd years at uni. Incidentally, those two days were a Tuesday and Wednesday exactly a year from today. Go figure!
Anyway, point of this post. It amused me how they had schools closed for one inch of snow. Of course, the weather got steadily worse and I had to drive back in not the most wonderful conditions. I did get the offer to go home early and work from the comfortable confines of my flat. But I know me and knowing me, I knew I would not be in the mood to work. Plus my computer, while it is fully capable of doing the work necessary, likes to crap out once in a while. I don't have that problem at work and I would rather sit in the office and work than letting my mind wander at home every five minutes.
So it's a winter wonderland outside. I for one am totally ticked because it was sixty degrees last week at this time. I knew it was going to get all frigid. I've come to distrust warm weather in the middle of winter. I take momentary joy in it but I know we'll be back to gloom for another month and a half. Oh and I got my stupid gas bill today. I don't know how I manage to get such a high bill. The only answer I think is the dip in temperatures...which also doesn't make sense to me. Whatever. I can't do anything but pay up. Gah stupid bills!
Um, will try to have some fic up later tonight. Oh and how about the writers' strike ending? I'm happy--happy for the writers to have struck a deal, and happy for us because we'll hopefully get some of our favourite shows in the next coming weeks. I hope Scrubs isn't a goner--I want to know what happens! And The Office will be back! What with my British shows and USA Network's Psych and Monk and ABC's Cashmere Mafia, I feel like I've endured the strike pretty well! Here's hoping we don't have another one coming up for...well...for a long time.
Till later.

I need to stop posting so sporadically. I try not to spend time on the comp when I get home from work because the less I stare at a screen, the better. At least when I'm home. That didn't work out too well yesterday as I ended up watching "The Philadelphia Story" on youtube last night. I couldn't help it; Cary Grant, Kate Hepburn and James Stewart in acting perfection. They're all so beautiful to look at and they perform so so well. Hands down my favourite movie, I think. Well definitely at the top, anyway.
I totally did not post about Novak Djokovic winning the Australian Open 2008 over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Sunday. Apologies. I haven't had the chance/inspiration to post. It's been a really crazy sort of week. Good in most ways but just so freaking tiring. I haven't been getting enough sleep--or rather, I get enough sleep, I just keep waking up in the middle of the night, which completely disrupts the entire sleeping pattern.
