This week's tidbits

I ordered the Atonement soundtrack last week as an Xmas/just for fun/ME present for me. I've watched the trailer about ten gazillion times and absolutely love the music. I love the soundtrack but it came with a glitch. The amazing stuff I heard on the trailer are not compositions by the film's composer, Dario Marianelli. They're by some guy who makes music specifically for trailers.

WAAH!

So now I'm hunting for the piece of music from the trailer. It was so beautiful and I have found its source. Now I just have to figure out how to get the music.

I can't wait to watch that movie either. I don't know when that's going to be but hopefully it's soon. What amuses me is that Romola Garai plays Keira Knightley's younger sister, when in real life, Knightley's three years younger than Garai. But she definitely looks older than Garai.

And I don't want to be picky but I'm so sick of seeing the various religious groups commercials on CNN. Enough already! Why do people have to push religion all over our faces? Honestly! That's one thing I don't miss about campus...being ambushed by people giving out free bibles (in any language...ha) or ranting about how we non-Christians/Jesus believers are going to hell. At least it'll be hot in hell. No ice storms there, haha!

This is increasingly becoming a random post. OH I wanted to put a couple of links here:

TIME's 'person of the year'
TIME's top 10 viral videos of 2007--good fun!

I need to make something for an office potluck Friday. Any suggestions? I'm thinking spinach rice--Indian but not too much of it. Ahhh xmas time is crazy!

I was watching this video on YouTube:

Listening to Phil Collins reminded me of this video:

And then it reminded me of '80s music and I remembered something that happened over Thanksgiving holiday. We finally got our PAL version VCR connected to the TV again ('cos, you know, who uses VCRs these days except for...people who live in the Stone Age? At least that's the thought that ruled our house). Anyway, I said to my mother that we can watch our home videos and all the tapes we had in India. She said yeah, bring them up and let's have a look. So my brother brought a carton full of tapes, some that were ours, some that were given by my uncle. Anyway, we had recorded "Ren and Stimpy" episodes and whatever had come on Star TV back in the days we lived in Bombay. My brothers wanted to watch "Ren and Stimpy," so they found the relevant tape, put it in and had to fast forward through the entire "Pied Piper of Hamelin" film (one of those 1950s technicolor extravaganzas that starred Van Johnson and Claude Rains. Anyway, so after "Ren and Stimpy" was over, there suddenly was a music video of...oh who was it first? It was...some '80s band that I can't recall the name of. Then Dire Straits came on and then, Tears for Fears. It was "Shout." The only reason I recognised the song was because it had come on a recent episode of "Psych." But that wasn't the killer, no. The best was "Ice Ice Baby." We all cracked up.

Total blast from the past. I wish we could've watched "Remember the Time." I think that was the only white Michael Jackson song I really like. I used to LOVE "Black or White" but when I saw the "extended" version, I was a bit...I dunno. I still love that video, until that smashing car part.

Anyway...random post but it gives you something to read if you're bored :)

Mostly important and interesting things that have occurred:
-I went to Philly yesterday and checked out the UPenn campus. Well technically I went to meet up with my sister-in-law and we hung out, got dinner and this morning, she left for her home and I came to mine. I'd wanted to grab Ethiopian food, mainly because where I live, we don't have that diverse of choices. I mean we do, considering it's a fairly small city. But Ethiopian? I think the big cities or university towns cater to those tastes. Unfortunately, the restaurant we'd planned on was too far away from the hotel and we didn't want to walk too far in the cold. I could've driven but driving in a new city, esp. one with one-ways and such, was ruled out. So we ate Thai food, which was OK. My personal favourite were the veg spring rolls, which were fantastic. FAN-TAS-TIC. They were dripping with oil but man, those were the best spring rolls I've ever had, not counting the ones we got at the Oodles restaurant at Busey back at uni. Haha.

-"Heroes"!!!! One more episode this season. On one hand, I'm happy because I don't know how much longer I could've taken such an aggravating questions-filled season. But on the other, I'm a bit sad because who knows what other revelations would've showed up? And I know loads of people are upset about the writers' strikes but seriously, leave them be. If you're a writer, you know that it doesn't pay that well unless you're freaking JK Rowling, and making 4 cents out of a $20 DVD is ridiculous.

Anyway. that's just going on to a whole new level, so we'll just leave that for now.

-I really miss the friends. I had such a fantastic time with them last week. And with the fam. I miss home. One more month till Xmas!

-Need to start with the Xmas (or "Holiday" , since I don't celebrate Xmas) cards buying and writing soon. I want to send them out in the next or so week.

-Davis Cup finals start day after tomorrow, USA vs. Russia. Honestly, whoever wins is OK. I love Russia but with all these ridiculous Davydenko Betfair allegations and the Russians poisoning Tommy Haas or whatever. Tennis was the non-drama sport. Why now? WHY?

-Need to start writing again, which I will do soon. I want to write a quick flash fiction type thing here one day, which I will do soon as well.

And that is it. I'm listening to Pink Floyd for the first time (at least more than one song). I like it so far. Hurrah!

A good one to all.

DEER UPDATE: None spotted since, what was it, Tuesday? I'm sure I'll spot a few tomorrow...will keep you updated.
I just realised I shouldn't keep my windows rolled down at night with deer about...what if I somehow get Lyme disease from a runaway deer tick?! So, will keep windows rolled up.

New favourite line from "Robin Hood": "I don't know which is worse...the wailing widows or the prancing peasants." Courtesy of the Sheriff of Nottingham, played by Keith Allen, who apparently is singer Lily Allen's father. WEIRD.

Need to watch season 2 of "Extras" and effing Blockbuster doesn't have it. It's times like these I miss That's Rentertainment.

New Radiohead album: Thumbs up. "House of Cards" is my favourite song.

I am writing. I am happy that I am writing. Chapter 3 is definitely hard. Figuring out the background is hard but it makes the story better. I hope, anyway.

Past my bedtime. I am off.

Site for you to check out if you are a foodie

Indian food! Loads of it! I personally am enamoured by the spinach-corn soup, the corn chaat and the yummy-licious sounding eggless chocolate brownies. I plan to be locked up in my kitchen next weekend. Hurrah!

i'm listening to the soundtrack of "guru" right now and each time i listen to a movie's soundtrack, it really shows me the power of music. i'm by no means a musician or a great big connoiseur...i just love music. sure, i can't appreciate certain types of it, but overall, when music makes me feel, i know that it's purpose has been served.

last spring (almost exactly a year ago, i think), i watched "the motorcyle diaries," and its music blew me away. the music almost brought me to tears. i can't think of a world without music--both the wonderful and the crappy. can you imagine? i don't think people would know how to feel--really feel.

we're talking about sound and music in my film class--can you imagine movies without music??? oh my gosh, my love of soundtracks would not have been found!!!
also, in inane news, i did watch "hey arnold" for the first time since nickelodeon stopped showing it on tv. hurrah for reruns and so forth. hurrah hurrah!

well it's late. until next time!
